Will Smith has revealed that Floyd Mayweather called to check on him for ten consecutive days after he controversially slapped Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars.
The 54-year-old actor lost his cool when the host made an ill-advised joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s buzzcut, Rock said: “Jada, can’t wait for GI Jane 2”, prompting Smith’s wife to roll her eyes.
Smith took matters into his own hands and marched on stage to confront the comedian and appeared to hit Rock before returning to his seat and shouting twice: “Keep my wife’s name out of your f****** mouth.”
The man who first found fame playing ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel Air’ went on to win the Oscar for best actor for his leading role in King Richard, in which he plays the father and coach of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams.
Smith, who has since apologised for his actions on multiple occasions, was in a dark place after the incident which happened on what should have been the greatest night of his career.
In the days after, Smith found an unlikely ally in Mayweather who he had met previously but did not consider a friend until he was going through a tough time.
At a recent private screening of his new ‘Emancipation’ movie in The London Hotel, Smith took time out to thank Mayweather – who was in the audience – for relentlessly checking on him after the Oscars slap fiasco.
"I want to say something also about Floyd," Smith said in a video obtained by TMZ Sports.
